Built for veterinary support staff — technicians and assistants

Every skill you build today is care someone receives tomorrow.

Small, steady steps — practiced on purpose.

Growth you can see

Build skills. Set goals. Keep learning.

VetMentor turns "I want to get better at this" into a plan with steps, dates, and a person in your corner.

Set the goal

Clear, written, yours

Guided SMART goal templates help mentees name what they want to master — from placing an IV catheter to leading a difficult conversation.

Build the skill

Practice with a plan

Required training modules, curated clinical and soft-skill resources, and biweekly guided sessions turn intention into repeatable capability.

Keep going

Learning that compounds

Progress checkpoints, shared notes, and mid- and end-point reviews let pairs adjust goals and set new ones instead of drifting.

Grounded in Self-Determination Theory

The program's structure follows decades of motivation research: people keep learning when they have autonomy over their path, growing competence in their craft, and real relatedness with their team. That's the scaffolding — the growth is the point.

AutonomyCompetenceRelatedness

Mentorship, coaching, advising — and why we lead with mentorship

Great mentors draw on all three. But the foundation of VetMentor is always a genuine, ongoing developmental relationship.

Mentorship

Relationship-driven growth

  • Long-term developmental relationship
  • Holistic — career, identity, wellbeing
  • Mentor shares lived experience
  • Driven by the mentee's goals
  • Builds autonomy, competence & relatedness

Coaching

Performance & goal-focused

  • Short-term, structured skill building
  • Coach asks questions — doesn't advise
  • Focused on specific performance goals
  • Coach doesn't need content expertise
  • Often time-limited with defined outcomes

Advising

Expert knowledge transfer

  • Expert provides direct recommendations
  • Task or decision-specific guidance
  • Transactional and often brief
  • Advisor holds the expertise & answers
  • Less focus on relationship development

How the program runs

Programs run six to twelve months, extendable by another six as the pair sees fit — or set your own rhythm.

Step 1

Match

Mentees and mentors complete a short questionnaire. Compatibility scoring proposes pairs; admins confirm.

Step 2

Agree

A guided agreement sets expectations, cadence, confidentiality, and shared goals for the relationship.

Step 3

Meet

A structured first session and lighter recurring check-ins keep conversations meaningful, not awkward.

Step 4

Grow

Pre, mid, and end surveys plus conversation analytics show SDT progress for the pair and the cohort.

Compatibility matching

Algorithmic scoring of every potential mentor–mentee pair, with admin approval. Supports relatedness from day one.

Guided SMART planning

Saved learning plans with checkable steps and built-in goal-setting coaching. Builds competence and autonomy.

Progress & analytics

Pair-level growth trajectories and a clinic-wide dashboard track skills gained, goals met, and engagement over time.

Nobody grows alone. Someone showed you — now it's your turn.

Mentors learn as much as mentees.
